NORK: Grain spirits from Bremen, tasting great neat

NORK is the brainchild of siblings Ann-Katrin and Johann Dallmeyer from Bremen. Their starting point: Korn has an image problem, not a taste problem. After two years of development, the first NORK Doppelkorn hit the bar in October 2016 – the first 300 bottles were largely sold via a crowdfunding campaign before they were even bottled. Ann-Katrin is a designer, which is why the bottles look the way they do: clean label, wooden cap, numbered bottles. Since 2019, it has been distilled with the Sasse craft distillery, before that at Hanschen Harm in Scheeßel.

Doppelkorn and DERBE

The NORK Doppelkorn is made from 100% German wheat, 39% ABV, mild with a slightly malty sweetness – intended to be enjoyed neat at room temperature or as a base for drinks. The DERBE Doppelkorn is its counterpart: wheat, rye, and peated barley malt, smoky, with notes of bread, 39% ABV, described by the manufacturer as "from mild to wild."

Korn-based liqueurs, egg liqueur without cream

The Lemon-Ginger Liqueur was the first NORK liqueur: organic lemons and organic ginger processed by hand, naturally cloudy, 20% ABV, served ice-cold or as a spritz. The Coffee-Liquorice Liqueur combines cold brew from a Hamburg specialty coffee roaster with liquorice, 20% ABV. The NORK Egg Liqueur is made without cream – organic free-range eggs from Demeter farms in Schleswig-Holstein, organic vanilla, 16% ABV, lactose-free – while the Gingerbread Egg Liqueur is the winter edition. Franzi is the company’s second brand: a cream liqueur with cinnamon, caramelized sugar, and pastry notes, 15% ABV – the Franzbrötchen pastry in a glass.
