Lang Weinessig Vinaigrette Jens. Mediterranean vinegar preparation with rosemary, thyme and garlic – sweet-sour and savory, in organic quality.
Lang Weinessig Vinaigrette Jens is a Mediterranean vinaigrette from the Southern Palatinate: 77 percent red and white wine vinegar aged in oak barrels, plus sugar, sea salt, grape must, thyme, rosemary and garlic, all from organic farming. 180 ml, 4.4 percent acidity, sweet-sour and savory. A vinegar preparation, not a ready-made salad dressing with oil.
Jens by Lang Weinessig is a vinaigrette for those who love herbs. Red and white wine vinegar meet rosemary, thyme and garlic, complemented by a delicate sweetness. The manufacturer calls it a sweet-sour savory sauce, and that hits the mark: it is a dressing, seasoning and marinade all in one bottle.
Sweet, sour, herbaceous: a balanced savory sauce
Jens tastes hearty and herb-forward. Rosemary and thyme are at the forefront, followed by garlic, carried by the acidity of the wine vinegar at 4.4 percent. Sugar and grape must, both in the ingredient list, provide the sweetness that matches the acidity.
According to Lang Weinessig, the appeal lies in the harmony between the sweetness and the acidity of the wine vinegar. This balance makes the vinaigrette so versatile in the kitchen: it works just as well in a cold dressing as it does in a warm sauce.
Anyone expecting a mild vinaigrette without spices will find too much aroma in Jens. For that, there is the "Liese" version. Also, those who avoid garlic should choose another variety, as it is an integral part of the recipe.
Dressing, gravy and marinade
Jens is one variety for three tasks: as an ingredient in salad dressing, in gravy or for marinating meat. The manufacturer's set suggests grilled vegetables and lentil salad as pairings, and both are fitting: the herbs go just as well with zucchini, bell peppers and eggplant as they do with lentils and onions.
For a quick dressing, stir a tablespoon of Jens with the oil of your choice. The herbs are already included, you only need to add pepper. For a marinade, add Jens and oil over meat or vegetables and let everything marinate for a few hours. Add a spoonful to gravy at the end so that the acidity remains fresh.
Because the vinaigrette contains no oil, you decide for yourself how much fat you want in the dish. A good start is a one-to-two ratio with oil.
The little bottle also helps in everyday life: a spoonful over roasted potatoes, beans or in a lentil salad replaces several spices at once. Because the variety already contains garlic and herbs, you save yourself the chopping and picking.
Our tip: Jens turns oven-roasted vegetables into a dish with character using just a few ingredients: drizzle with a spoonful after baking, toss briefly, and serve immediately.
Rosemary, thyme, garlic and wine from the Palatinate
Lang Weinessig is a producer in Gommersheim in the Southern Palatinate, founded by trained chef Jens Michael Lang. He learned and worked in star-rated kitchens and has been producing wine vinegars, vinaigrettes, fruit balsams and ready-made salad dressings for over ten years.
The basis for many products are wines from an organic-certified winery in the Southern Palatinate. For Jens, red and white wine vinegar are aged in oak barrels; according to the ingredient list, all ingredients come from organic farming, and the organic control number is DE-ÖKO-006.
Lang Weinessig considers the Palatinate to be the Tuscany of the North: plenty of sun, even figs, and above all, wine. Rosemary, thyme and garlic are part of Mediterranean cuisine, and in this vinaigrette, they meet a vinegar from the Palatinate.
The vinaigrette for herb lovers and barbecue evenings
Jens is the right choice for herb lovers, barbecue fans and anyone looking for a pre-seasoned marinade. As a gift, it suits hobby cooks who want one sauce for everything in their pantry.
A fruity companion to Jens is the Vinaigrette Albert with Dornfelder. All four of the producer's varieties are included in the Vinaigrette Gift Set. You can find further products on the Lang Weinessig page.
Jens is not suitable for those looking for a delicate, spice-free vinaigrette for fish or leaf salad. For that, the Organic Vinaigrette Liese is the better choice.
