Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur

Interview with Tim Müller, founder of the Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur

Leni & Hans: Hello Tim! Thank you so much for taking the time for this interview. To start, could you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to found the Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur (DSM)?

Tim Müller: Hello Leni and Hans, I’m very happy to be here. I am Tim Müller, born and raised in Berlin, and the founder of the Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur. My journey into the world of spirits began a few years ago when I started to delve deeper into the art of distillation. What began as a hobby quickly developed into a passion, and that is how the idea for the DSM was born. Our goal is to produce high-quality, handcrafted spirits that stand out due to their exceptional quality and unique taste.

Leni & Hans: That sounds exciting! What sets the Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur apart from other manufacturers?

Tim Müller: Our focus is on quality and craftsmanship. We place great importance on selecting the best raw materials and work closely with regional farmers and producers. Every step of the production process is carefully monitored, and we use traditional distillation methods to ensure that every bottle meets our high standards. We produce in small batches, which gives us the opportunity to focus on each product individually and to conduct experiments that are often not possible for large manufacturers.

Leni & Hans: What products do you offer, and which is your personal favorite?

Tim Müller: We have a broad range, reaching from classic gins and vodkas to more unusual spirits such as aquavit and herbal liqueurs. My personal favorite is our Dry Gin. It combines classic notes of juniper with a delicate citrus aroma and a few secret botanicals that give it a very special touch.

Leni & Hans: How important is regional connectivity to your products?

Tim Müller: It is very important to us. We see ourselves as a Berlin-based manufactory and are proud to have our roots in this vibrant and creative city. Close cooperation with regional partners and the use of local raw materials not only ensures the high quality of our products but also supports the regional economy. We want Berlin to be tasteable in every bottle of DSM.

Leni & Hans: What are the biggest challenges you face as a founder in the spirits industry?

Tim Müller: In the beginning, it was certainly the bureaucracy and the many regulations that apply in Germany for the production and distribution of alcohol products. But establishing the brand and building a customer base were not easy either. The spirits industry is highly competitive, and it takes time and a lot of dedication to make a name for yourself. Nevertheless, I am convinced that our quality and our concept will prevail in the long term.

Leni & Hans: What do you enjoy most about your work?

Tim Müller: The creativity and experimenting with new recipes and aromas are what drive me every day. It is an incredibly fulfilling feeling to develop a new product and then receive feedback from customers. Working with my team and our shared successes are also very motivating. There is nothing better than turning your own passion into your profession.

Leni & Hans: Where do you see the Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur in five years?

Tim Müller: We want to continue to establish ourselves as one of the leading manufactories for handcrafted spirits and steadily expand our range. Long-term, I would like to be present not only in Germany but also internationally. Furthermore, I am planning to expand our offer to include exciting tastings and workshops in order to bring our customers even closer to our products and our philosophy.

Leni & Hans: Thank you for this informative conversation, Tim! We wish you and the Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur continued success.

Tim Müller: Thank you very much! It was a pleasure to speak with you.
