Jörg Geiger PriSecco Mirabellengold non-alcoholic. Seasonal PriSecco made from mirabelle plums and apples – full-bodied, with lemon verbena, also delicious served warm.
Jörg Geiger PriSecco Mirabellengold non-alcoholic is a seasonal edition from the PriSecco brand in Schlat on the Swabian Alb: mirabelle plum juice with apple juice from Swabian meadow orchard fruit, cucumber and ginger juice, lemon verbena, herbs, and spices, 0.0% vol, 750 ml. Not a sparkling wine, not a liqueur – a sparkling autumn aperitif made from juice.
PriSecco Mirabellengold by Jörg Geiger is one of the manufacturer's seasonal PriSeccos. PriSecco is a registered trademark for non-alcoholic, sparkling compositions based on fruit juices from Swabian meadow orchards, refined with herbs, blossoms, and spices, and with added carbonation – according to the manufacturer, it contains 0.0% alcohol. In addition to the four classics, there are editions linked to the seasons: Frühlingsduft (Spring Scent), Sommerbirne (Summer Pear), Mirabellengold (Mirabelle Gold), and Winterbirnentraum (Winter Pear Dream). Mirabellengold belongs to autumn, when the small, golden-yellow plums are ripe. And it has a special feature: you can also drink it warm.
Taste
The nose opens with the fresh, clear scent of lemon verbena. This is followed by the lush fruit notes of the mirabelle, delicately underscored by the ethereal freshness of rosemary and tarragon.
On the palate, Mirabellengold is full-bodied and round, with delicate bitter almond notes and a slightly sweet finish. More than half of the bottle is mirabelle juice, and you can taste it. The apple juice from the meadow orchards adds acidity, while cucumber and ginger juice provide freshness and a subtle piquancy. By using vegetable juice, the manufacturer is following a trend they have announced for their recipes: in the future, a proportion of selected vegetable juices will supplement the PriSeccos. In the glass, however, the mirabelle remains the centerpiece – golden, ripe, and with the typical fragrance of the small plum.
Usage
Serve Mirabellengold chilled at 8 to 10 °C in a sparkling wine glass as an aperitif before an autumn meal or for a toast in the afternoon. It also pairs well with fruity-sweet desserts, such as apricot dumplings or a piece of Brillat-Savarin with apricot chutney, where the bitter almond note meets the creamy rind.
Jörg Geiger himself recommends the second variation: warm. To do this, place the unopened bottle in a 55 °C water bath for 30 minutes. Then, open it carefully with a cloth napkin, as warm carbonation creates more pressure. You are then left with a warm, sparkling aperitif in your glass that smells of mirabelle, verbena, and herbs. According to the manufacturer's recommendation, a warm mirabelle crumble goes perfectly with it – fruit with fruit, warm with warm.
Our tip: Measure the 55 °C with a kitchen thermometer and maintain it by adding a little hot water. Keep the bottle sealed until it comes out of the bath, and hold the napkin firmly over the cork when opening.
Origin
The Jörg Geiger manufactory is located in Schlat on the Albtrauf of the Swabian Alb. Jörg Geiger is a trained chef; he took over his parents' inn, the Lamm, at the age of 22 in 1997 and bottled his first PriSecco in 2003. The raw material is Swabian meadow orchard fruit: old, often tart apple and pear varieties from local meadow orchards, supplied by farmers in the surrounding area.
In Mirabellengold, the apple juice comes from these meadows, but the mirabelle plays the starring role. Because the ingredients are tied to their harvest time, this edition is bottled only once a year, in late autumn. All steps from delivery to bottling take place at the manufactory.
For whom
Mirabellengold is the bottle for people who enjoy baking in the autumn and want something in their glass that pairs perfectly with a crumble or plum cake. The warm version makes it a conversation piece among guests – a warm PriSecco surprises even those who are already familiar with the manufactory.
If you are looking for an apple-based PriSecco for year-round enjoyment, choose PriSecco Apfelsinfonie. For a bright, herbaceous, and spicy aperitif, PriSecco Weißduftig is available; you can find all bottles on our Jörg Geiger page. Mirabellengold is not suitable for those looking for a tart, dry aperitif – it is full-bodied and has a sweet finish.
Mirabelle, lemon verbena, and meadow orchard fruit – the seasonal PriSecco from Schlat, ice-cold as an aperitif or warm with a crumble.
