The variety of flavors in honey is inexhaustible. Julia Janocha is passionate about this valuable natural product every single day. At FROMBee, she tracks down true rarities and discovers sweet treasures of nature, ranging from Greek thyme honey to Mexican orange blossom honey.

Conversation with Julia Janocha from FROMBee

Julia, why are you so passionate about honey?

Many people only think of honey as a sweet spread. But this natural product has so much more to offer. I am a great honey lover, and I am fascinated by the different varieties and flavors. Every honey tastes and smells different and has its own unique consistency. For example, I recently tried coriander or rosemary honey for the first time. There are endless types of honey that we are still getting to know every day. It gives me joy every day to keep discovering new facets of honey.

How did you come up with the idea for FROMBee?

A few years ago, we noticed that German supermarkets often carry the same selection of honey varieties. Yet, the diversity of honey is enormous and, as I mentioned, the differences in taste are incredible. As big honey fans, we wanted to make special varieties like Manuka honey, thyme honey, or orange blossom honey accessible in Germany as well.

Where can the most exciting honey rarities be found?

For FROMBee, we travel worldwide to visit beekeepers and producers. Greece, for example, has a wonderful thyme honey tradition—the aromatic herb gives the honey a bold spiciness. In Mexico, bees collect orange blossom nectar with a delicate citrus note. From New Zealand comes the famous Manuka honey with its very special, slightly tart aroma.

What do you look for when selecting products?

We place great value on artisanal beekeeping, transparent origins, and natural processing. Industrially heated or filtered honey is out of the question for us. We want the authentic taste of a region and the specific nectar source in every bottle.
