Nadine and Christian love living in the countryside. They source the ingredients for their spice blends locally from Baden-Württemberg whenever possible. Land & Schmecker herbs are hand-picked and boast a naturally aromatic flavor.
A conversation with Christian Wenzler of Land & Schmecker
Mr. Wenzler, what distinguishes Land & Schmecker spices?
High quality is very important to us. We know many of our producers personally. For us, there is no question that the quality must be right. You can not only see the high quality of the product, but you can also taste it.
What makes your spice blends unique?
We develop and produce the recipes for our spice blends entirely ourselves. This starts with grinding the raw materials. Only by processing a product myself do I know the quality inside. And I can ensure that it remains consistent.
Our workshop is located between two gourmet regions.
What role does regionality play for you?
We are at home in a place where many people go on vacation. On one side, we have the Swabian Jura and on the other, the Black Forest. Our workshop is therefore located between two magnificent gourmet regions. That says something! All around us, we have a lot of agriculture and thus the producers of many raw materials. We find the ingredients for our products right on our doorstep. These are not large-scale operations, but mostly family-run farms.
What are your plans for the future?
We want to make Land & Schmecker a gourmet workshop from a gourmet region. We will certainly implement many great ideas for further products in the future. You can look forward to it!
Do you have a favorite product?
As they always say in newspaper interviews: My favorite product is all of our products. But it also depends on the season. In summer, I prefer things for the grill. We are very creative in the kitchen and try out a lot. I like to use cinnamon or tonka bean in the winter. Currently, our new spice blends with aronia are being used a lot at home. The sweet version is suitable for muesli or yogurt. The Aronia Cheese Magic goes very well with a snack as a spread.
What does a satisfied customer look like to you?
For me, a satisfied customer is someone who comes back and buys again. Then I can be sure: We have convinced them with our product. And there are now very many who come back.
