Bacanha Lychee Syrup. Organic fruit syrup with natural lychee flavoring – for Lychee Coladas, iced tea, and lemonade.
Bacanha Lychee Syrup is an organic fruit syrup made from cane sugar, water, and natural lychee flavoring by the Parisian syrup manufacturer Bacanha. Non-alcoholic, 400 ml in a glass bottle, enough for about 20 drinks. No canned lychee juice, no ready-made cocktail, no artificial coloring – the gentle, exotic syrup for Tiki drinks and iced tea that you dose yourself.
Lychee Syrup by Bacanha is known by the manufacturer as Sirop Saveur Litchi Brut, and the word "Saveur" honestly states what's inside: the lychee flavor profile, carried by a natural lychee aroma. The lychee itself is a small fruit from Southern China with rough red skin and white, juicy flesh that tastes sweet, slightly tart, and floral. A fruit syrup like this needs the fruit as a flavor: organic cane sugar and water form the base, the lychee aroma provides the scent, and a little citric acid is added. The manufacturer calls it an elixir of the juicy exotic fruit, gentle and refreshing in taste, fruity in aroma. It is recommended for cold water, iced tea, and cocktails. In the product range, the lychee is categorized under fruits, alongside yuzu and grenadine.
Taste
The lychee syrup tastes gentle and fruity, with the floral scent of lychee reminiscent of roses and a slight acidity.
Lychee is a quiet fruit; it tastes sweet and perfumed, yet light. The syrup captures exactly that: first the sweetness of the cane sugar, then the scent somewhere between grape, rose, and pear, and finally a short, fresh finish. Cane sugar is the primary ingredient; according to the manufacturer, a Sirop Brut is still less sweet than classic syrup. Mixed with sparkling water, it creates a bright, floral lemonade; in pineapple juice and coconut milk, it provides the note that distinguishes the Lychee Colada from the Piña Colada. Anyone expecting a strong, acidic citrus fruit will find the lychee too delicate. If you like floral, exotic sweetness, this is your variety.
Usage
For a Lychee Colada, add 6 cl of dark rum, 12 cl of pineapple juice, 4 cl of coconut milk, and 2 cl of lychee syrup to a shaker, shake vigorously, and serve over ice.
For a non-alcoholic option, the manufacturer recommends the syrup in cold water and iced tea: 2 cl to about 16 cl of cold water or cold black tea (a ratio of roughly 1 part syrup to 8 parts water), meaning the bottle yields about 20 glasses. In a gin and tonic, a splash is enough; the manufacturer likes to combine it there with their rose syrup. With sparkling water, ice, and a few mint leaves, the lychee syrup turns into a summer lemonade that even children will like.
The bottle contains 400 ml. Store in a cool, dry place, keep refrigerated after opening, and consume promptly.
Our tip: Mix the Lychee Colada for children and designated drivers without the rum: 12 cl pineapple juice, 4 cl coconut milk, 2 cl lychee syrup, shaken over ice. No one will miss the rum.
Origin
In its studio near Paris, Bacanha blends around 40 types of syrup, from vanilla to cucumber; lychee belongs to the fruit category and is one of the manufacturer's popular varieties.
The company was founded in 2013 in Paris and is now based in Seine-et-Marne, east of the city, where all varieties are blended, gently heated at low temperatures, and bottled in glass. Every recipe begins with organic cane sugar from South America and water; what follows makes the variety – in the case of lychee, a natural aroma which, like all aromas from the company, is developed in the Grasse region, the city of perfumers on the Côte d'Azur. This fits the lychee, whose appeal lies primarily in its scent. All 15 Bacanha varieties we stock carry the EU organic logo. You can see which ones these are on our Bacanha page.
For whom
The lychee syrup is the bottle for anyone mixing Tiki drinks at their home bar, and for guests who prefer their iced tea exotic rather than citrusy. It fits a summer day on the terrace, as a drink served with Asian dishes, and in non-alcoholic drinks for children familiar with lychee from fruit salad.
Those looking for citrus with character should choose the Yuzu Syrup; those wanting red fruits for a "diabolo" or "Monaco" drink should choose the Grenadine Syrup from the same company. The lychee syrup is not suitable for those expecting fruit pulp or juice in their glass – it is a flavored syrup.
Natural lychee aroma on cane sugar, blended near Paris – the organic fruit syrup with which you can mix your own Lychee Coladas and iced tea.
