Bacanha Mojito Syrup. Organic syrup with mint, lime, and lemon – for Virgin Mojitos, sparkling water, and iced tea.
Bacanha Mojito Syrup is an organic syrup made from cane sugar, water, natural mint and lemon flavoring, and lime extract by the Parisian syrup manufacturer Bacanha. 400 ml in a glass bottle, a concentrate for about 20 drinks, non-alcoholic. No rum, no pre-mixed cocktail, no artificial coloring – the mint-lime base for a Mojito that you mix yourself with sparkling water.
Mojito Syrup by Bacanha is known by the manufacturer as Sirop Mojito Brut and captures the essence of the Cuban cocktail: mint, lime, and sugar. The original recipe also calls for white rum and soda water. A Mojito syrup bundles the first three ingredients into one bottle, so that you can make a glass in a minute using syrup, ice, and sparkling water, with or without rum. Bacanha uses organic cane sugar, water, natural mint flavoring, natural lemon flavoring, and lime extract for this. According to the manufacturer, the company spent a long time working on the ratio of mint freshness to citrus acidity until both were perfectly balanced. The manufacturer recommends the concentrate for cocktails, iced tea, lemonade, or simply a glass of water. At Bacanha, this variety is part of the "Pack Classique" and the starter set "Premier Verre."
Taste
The Mojito syrup tastes of mint and lime, fresh and tart, with a sweetness that holds it all together.
First comes the mint, cool and green; then the lime with its zesty peel, which the extract provides, while the lemon flavoring brightens both. Cane sugar is the primary ingredient, and citric acid provides the tart edge. According to the manufacturer, a "Sirop Brut" is less sweet than classic syrup, which is important for a Mojito syrup to prevent the drink from becoming sticky. Diluted with sparkling water, the impression remains fresh and citrusy, with the mint lingering long. Those expecting a sweet mint syrup will find more acidity here. It is perfect for those who love Mojitos but prefer to drink without alcohol during the week.
Usage
The house recipe is the Virgin Mojito: 3 cl of Mojito syrup over ice, top with sparkling water, and add a few mint leaves and a slice of lime to the glass.
For a larger group, Bacanha suggests a big batch: 15 cl of syrup, 1 liter of sparkling water, and 10 ice cubes in a 1.5-liter pitcher, garnished with mint and lime. This corresponds to about 1 part syrup to 8 parts water, meaning one bottle yields about 20 glasses. The syrup is softer in still water; in cold black or green tea, it turns into a mint-lime iced tea that already contains the sugar. If you want to mix a classic Mojito, you can use the syrup to replace the sugar, lime juice, and the muddling of mint in one step, then simply add white rum; the syrup itself remains non-alcoholic.
One bottle contains 400 ml. Store in a cool, dry place; once opened, keep refrigerated and consume promptly.
Our tip: Dice watermelon, drizzle with 2 cl of Mojito syrup, and chill for 20 minutes – a dessert for hot evenings.
Origin
A Mojito syrup from Paris instead of Havana: Bacanha was founded in 2013 in Paris and now crafts its syrups in a workshop in the Seine-et-Marne department, east of the city.
The manufacturer coined the term "Sirop Brut" to describe syrups with a short ingredient list where the flavor takes center stage. The base is the same for every variety: organic cane sugar from South America and water. Bacanha states that the flavorings for mint, lemon, and lime are developed in the Grasse region, home to France's fragrance and flavoring houses. The ingredients are blended, gently heated at low temperatures, and bottled in glass at their workshop. All 15 Bacanha varieties we offer are certified organic and bear the EU organic logo. You can find more about the company on our Bacanha page.
