Die Honigwanderer Summer Honey. Organic blossom honey from blackberry, linden, clover, and summer herbs – robust, fruity-spicy, with a warm tone.
Die Honigwanderer Summer Honey is a robust organic blossom honey from the summer nectar flow, gathered by German migratory beekeepers. It contains blackberry, linden, clover, and summer herbs. Unheated, gently extracted and strained, 250 g, certified according to EU organic standards.
Summer honey from Die Honigwanderer is the counterpart to the light honey from spring. In June and July, the landscape is full: blackberries bloom along forest paths and hedges, and linden trees blossom in villages and avenues. Clover joins in the meadows, and summer herbs grow along the edges. The bees gather nectar from all these plants simultaneously. Blackberry and clover are among the inconspicuous yet productive sources of nectar. Linden brings its fresh note, and the herbs provide the spice. This mixture creates a blossom honey that is significantly more robust and warmer in tone than early season honeys. It shows how the taste of honey changes over the course of a bee's year.
Taste
The manufacturer describes this honey as floral and aromatic, while also being robust and fruity-spicy. The blackberry contributes a fruity side, while the summer herbs add a spicy one. The hue is warm.
Compared to mild varieties, it has more depth. The sweetness is present but is framed by fruity and spicy notes. A hint of linden freshness resonates. This results in a full-bodied honey that tastes equally good in tea and on bread.
Because the bees gather from many plants in the summer, it is not a monofloral honey. It turns out a little different each year, depending on what is in full bloom. Anyone looking for a very mild, neutral honey will find this one too strong.
Usage
According to the manufacturer, it is suitable for sweetening tea, yogurt, and muesli, or for spreading on bread. Its fruitiness really shines on whole-grain bread with butter or cream cheese. In fruit tea or a robust black tea, it complements the existing aromas. Let hot drinks cool down slightly first so that the aroma is preserved.
In the kitchen, it pairs well with summer dishes. With lemon and olive oil, it becomes a dressing for tomato salad or arugula. It glazes chicken drumsticks from the grill or pan-fried halloumi. Drizzled over grilled peaches or apricots, it makes a quick dessert. It is also excellent in a berry smoothie or over quark with fresh blackberries.
Store the jar in a cool, dry place away from light. Crystallization is, according to the manufacturer, a natural process; in a warm water bath at a maximum of 40 °C, the honey becomes liquid again.
Note: The only ingredient is organic honey; it contains no major allergens that require labeling. Honey is generally not suitable for babies under twelve months old.
Our tip: Halve a few peaches, grill them briefly, and drizzle a spoonful of honey over them. Add a dollop of yogurt, and your summer dessert is ready.
Origin
Why is the brand called "Die Honigwanderer" (The Honey Wanderers)? Because the bees wander. Throughout the year, the partner apiaries bring their colonies to various locations in Germany, wherever nature is currently in full bloom. This creates a wide variety of honeys throughout the year, from light spring honey to acacia and linden, all the way to forest and chestnut honey. The summer honey stands in the middle of this range.
The nectar-gathering areas are close to nature and located far from intensive agriculture. Work is carried out according to EU organic guidelines. The Goldnote apiary from Röhrnbach in the Bavarian Forest has taken over the brand and continues to run it as an organic line in the spirit of the founders.
For whom
This honey is for everyone looking for a blossom honey with strength and fruitiness. It fits perfectly with breakfast, summer cooking, and barbecue evenings, and it makes a lovely gift. The linden honey is fresh with a fine menthol note. The spring honey is mild and creamy. You can find all varieties on our Die Honigwanderer page. It is less suitable if you only want to sweeten tea or yogurt very subtly.
