Lang Wine Vinegar Dip Dornfelder & Date. Vinegar dip for tasting – Red wine, date, 175 ml.
Lang Wine Vinegar Dip Dornfelder & Date is a savory vinegar dip from Gommersheim in the Southern Palatinate. It consists of Dornfelder wine, red wine vinegar, and dates, as well as onions, mustard, tomato paste, and sea salt. Sweet and sour, slightly creamy, and without added crystal sugar. The 175 ml bottle is the entry-level size for dips, dressings, and barbecue sauce.
Dip Dornfelder & Date by Lang Wine Vinegar is a dip, a salad dressing, and a marinade all in one bottle. A dip is a vinegar preparation with wine, fruit, and mustard, thicker than a vinaigrette and therefore made for dunking. The small bottle is perfect for getting to know it.
Red wine seasoning with soft date sweetness
The dip tastes sweet and sour and very savory. The manufacturer describes it as oriental-spicy, which fits the combination of Dornfelder and date.
Dornfelder is a robust red wine that gives the dip depth. The date provides a soft sweetness, tomato paste and onion round it out, and the red wine vinegar keeps everything fresh. The consistency is slightly creamy. Of the four dips in the range, this is the darkest and most savory.
This makes it a variety with a clear personality. Those who like it, love it, and those who prefer something more delicate will find a lighter sister in the range. A dab on the plate is enough for a first impression: you immediately taste wine, fruit, and mustard, followed by a fresh acidity that cleanses the palate.
First plain on bread, then in the kitchen
The quickest way to get to know the dip is on a piece of bread, with cheese, raw vegetables, or cold roast meat. This way you can find out how you prefer to use it.
For salads, stir a tablespoon of the dip with a tablespoon of oil and a splash of water. It goes well with arugula, lamb's lettuce, and beetroot. When grilling, brush ribs or chicken legs towards the end of the cooking time, as the variety is also suitable as a BBQ sauce, according to the manufacturer.
For quick cooking, it works as a spread on cheese bread or in a wrap with roast meat and salad. A spoonful in gravy makes it darker and more savory.
The small bottle is also suitable as a grilling companion: three to four tablespoons are enough for four chicken legs or a handful of ribs. This will get you through a family barbecue, while for larger parties the 335 ml bottle is the better choice. The dip also tastes great with grilled vegetables like eggplant and bell pepper if brushed on thinly just before serving.
Our tip: Place the dip on a cheese board, next to a strong mountain cheese. The dates and red wine pair well with nuts and grapes.
Wines from an organic winery, craft from Michelin-starred cuisine
The basis of the dip are wines from an organic-certified winery in the Southern Palatinate. Lang Wine Vinegar is based in Gommersheim.
The manufacturer was founded by trained chef Jens Michael Lang, who learned his trade in Michelin-starred kitchens. For over ten years, he has been producing wine vinegars, vinaigrettes, fruit balsams, and ready-made salad dressings. The dips are his contribution to everyday cooking: few ingredients, a clear flavor profile. For this variety, the proportions are clearly stated on the label: 20 percent Dornfelder wine, 17 percent red wine vinegar, 10 percent dates.
For tasting, giving as a gift, and for small households
The 175 ml bottle is perfect if you want to test the variety, live alone or as a couple, or are looking for a small gift.
As a gift, the bottle suits barbecue fans and cheese lovers, because red wine, date, and mustard are a trio that loves to be dipped. A piece of mountain cheese and a loaf of bread, and your gift is ready.
If you would like to try all four varieties, you will find each dip in the 175 ml size in the dip gift set. If you like the variety and use it often for dipping or grilling, it is available as a large 335 ml bottle for frequent users. The milder sister Pinot Blanc & Apricot goes well with light dishes; you can find more on the Lang Wine Vinegar page.
The dip is not suitable for those with a mustard allergy, as mustard is one of the ingredients. Dornfelder wine and red wine vinegar contain sulfites. And for very delicate dishes like fish, choose a lighter variety.
