Lang Wine Vinegar "Tunke" (Dip) Gift Set. Four vinegar-based dips in a set – Cherry, Apricot, Fig, Date, 175 ml each.
Lang Wine Vinegar Tunke Gift Set is a collection of four slightly creamy vinegar-based dips from the Lang artisanal producer in the Southern Palatinate. It contains Pinot Noir & Cherry, Pinot Blanc & Apricot, Riesling & Fig, and Dornfelder & Date, 175 ml each. Each variety is sweet and tart, made with wine, vinegar, fruit, and mustard, and sweetened with grape must and fruit, with no added refined sugar.
The Tunke Gift Set by Lang Wine Vinegar brings together all four varieties of the range in the handy 175 ml size. A "Tunke" is a vinegar preparation that sits between a dip, a dressing, and a sauce: thicker than a vinaigrette, but fluid enough for dressing and marinating. The producer puts it this way: everything that can be dipped, gets dipped. In this set, you can open four varieties at once and put them to the test against each other.
Four varieties, four characters: from mild to spicy
The four dips differ in their wine and fruit, but share a basic concept of wine, wine vinegar, fruit, onion, mustard, and sea salt.
Pinot Blanc & Apricot is the mildest variety. Mild Pinot Blanc meets fruity apricot, resulting in a summery, fresh dip for light salads and Asian-inspired dishes. It goes well with light meat, poultry, and seafood. Click here for the individual bottle.
Riesling & Fig is sweet-tart and fresh. Palatinate Riesling and dried figs create a dip that pairs with cheese, bread, and grilled chicken or pork. The individual bottle is also available separately.
Pinot Noir & Cherry combines Pinot Noir with sour cherry juice and cherries. The producer views it as a fruity dressing and refined dip with mustard and cherry, ideal for toasted bread, soft cheese, and game pâté. Go to the individual bottle.
Dornfelder & Date is the spiciest of the quartet. Bold Dornfelder and sweet date make it sweet-tart and slightly oriental, a great partner for hearty salads, raw vegetables, and BBQ. The individual bottle is also available.
By comparison, the range can be ordered as follows: Apricot is the mildest and lightest; Fig is fresh and fruity in the middle; Cherry provides darker berry fruit; and Date offers the boldest spice. If you are looking for a variety that goes with everything, start in the middle. If you are choosing specifically for a dish, you have plenty of options with four bottles.
One evening, four bowls: how to sample the set
The best way to try the set is on an evening with friends: four small bowls, accompanied by bread, raw vegetables, cheese, and a cool drink.
Arrange pieces of bread, veggie sticks, cubes of cheese, and strips of meat on a large board. Everyone dips into their favorite variety, and after a few rounds, the group will know which dip was the best choice. The producer suggests exactly these items as classics: bread, raw vegetables, cheese, grilled meat, or fish.
All four are also suitable for salads. Two tablespoons of the dip, one tablespoon of oil, and a splash of water make a dressing for leaf lettuce, lamb's lettuce, or raw vegetables, depending on the variety. The light Apricot pairs with cucumber and fennel, while the Date works well with beetroot and arugula.
When grilling, you can serve several varieties side-by-side: Cherry and Date with darker meat, Apricot with poultry and prawns, and Fig with pork. Only brush the meat at the end so that the fruit doesn't burn.
For a buffet, place a small spoon and a label next to each variety. Guests can dip, taste, and compare without you needing to do much preparation. Cold roasts, slices of bread, cheese bites, and vegetable sticks work well as sides. With soft cheeses like Camembert or fresh goat cheese, the dip turns a simple piece of cheese into a full course.
Our tip: Line up the four bottles and write down which dip tasted best with which dish. That way, you’ll know which variety to reorder in the large bottle.
Wines from the Southern Palatinate, crafted by a chef
All four dips are based on wines from a certified organic winery in the Southern Palatinate. The Lang Wine Vinegar manufactory is located in Gommersheim.
It was founded by trained chef Jens Michael Lang, who learned his craft in star-rated kitchens. For over ten years, he has been producing wine vinegars, vinaigrettes, fruit balsams, and ready-made salad dressings. According to the producer, the dips are made from natural ingredients and are handcrafted.
The ingredients are clearly listed on the labels. The sweetness comes from grape must, wine concentrate, and fruit: cherry, apricot, fig, and date. Each bottle contains mustard, and the set contains sulfites from the wine.
The four dips show how broad a range made from just a few ingredients can be. A chef makes decisions based on taste, not marketing: which fruit pairs with which wine, and which vinegar carries them? The result is a series in which every variety has its own place in the kitchen.
The gift for gourmets, hosts, and the indecisive
The set is perfect if you want to gift variety without knowing the recipient's favorite flavor. Four varieties cover four different palates.
The set contains four bottles of the same size, which looks great on a gift table and fits into any gift bag. Add a baguette and a piece of cheese, and the gift is complete.
It is suitable for birthdays, Christmas, as a housewarming gift, or as a thank-you for hosts who love to cook. It is also the easiest entry point for yourself: you test all the varieties and then specifically order the large bottle of your favorite. The 335 ml bottle of Dornfelder & Date and the Riesling & Fig are the pantry sizes for frequent users.
Those gifting the set can accompany the varieties with small recipe ideas: Apricot for a summer salad, Fig for a cheese platter, Cherry for a game roast or pâté, and Date for a BBQ evening. This turns four bottles into a little story.
Further products from the manufacturer, such as vinaigrettes and fruit balsams, can be found on the Lang Wine Vinegar page.
The set is not suitable for those with a mustard allergy, as all four dips contain mustard. If you are looking for just a single variety, it is better to choose the 175 ml individual bottle.
