Rosenberg Organic Blackberry. Seedless organic fruit spread made from blackberries – intensely berry-flavored, slightly tart, with a high fruit content.
Rosenberg Organic Blackberry is a seedless organic fruit spread made from blackberries from the Beerenbunt fruit farm in Helbigsdorf, cooked by Rosenberg Delikatessen in Leipzig. Every 100 g contains 83 g of fruit, plus cane sugar and apple pectin. The jar contains 160 g.
Blackberry by Rosenberg solves a problem many know when eating blackberry jam: the seeds. Blackberries are full of small, hard seeds that crunch between the teeth. Rosenberg puts this spread into the jar completely seedless. What remains is what it’s all about: the dark fruit. With 83 g of fruit per 100 g, the blackberry is one of the manufacturer’s most fruit-rich spreads. It is sweetened with cane sugar from certified organic farming and thickened with apple pectin. There is nothing else on the label. The jar is declared briefly and clearly, as is customary at Rosenberg.
Flavor
The blackberry tastes intensely of blackberry, with a slightly tart note. That is how the manufacturer describes it, and that is how it comes across. The fruit is deep, almost wine-like, with a hint of wild berry. The acidity keeps it fresh, while the sweetness remains in the background. Because the seeds are missing, the consistency is velvety and smooth. The color is a very dark violet that shines on light-colored bread or in yogurt.
Compared to the strawberry, the blackberry is more tart and sophisticated. It tastes like late summer, like hedgerows along the edge of a field, and berries ripening in the sun. This depth is particularly well highlighted on a dark rye bread; on a croissant, it seems fruitier and lighter. Anyone expecting a very sweet spread with fruit pieces will find the blackberry too tart.
Usage
Classically, blackberry belongs on a slice of buttered bread, a croissant, or toast. With quark or cream cheese underneath, it makes for a breakfast that keeps you full longer. It replaces compote when served with pancakes, waffles, or Kaiserschmarrn. Added to plain yogurt with oats, it turns the muesli a deep violet.
When baking, the blackberry is a helpful companion. Spread it thinly on a cheesecake, use it to fill muffins or cookies, or layer it between sponge cake and whipped cream. Savory-wise, it fits into a sauce for game or duck, where its dark fruit complements hearty meat. It also makes a fine addition to a cheese board alongside aged goat cheese or Brie.
After opening, keep the jar in the refrigerator. Because Rosenberg avoids preservatives, the manufacturer recommends consuming it within 5 to 7 days.
Our tip: A small bowl of quark with a little vanilla sugar, topped with two spoonfuls of blackberry and a few toasted hazelnut slivers. A dessert ready in two minutes.
Origin
The blackberries are picked by the Beerenbunt fruit farm in Helbigsdorf. The strawberries and raspberries for Rosenberg also come from there. The fruits for the manufactory generally come from small, organic-certified farms, plantations, and traditional orchards in Central Germany and Brandenburg. They are cooked in Leipzig, in a kitchen of the Leipzig Kesselkollektiv, where the fruit spreads are stirred by hand. Within the city, the jars are preferably transported by cargo bike. Matthias Rosenberg founded the small organic manufactory in 2016. He describes his goal as follows: to transform the best aromas of regional organic fruit into fine foods. Rosenberg is organic-certified, control body DE-ÖKO-060. According to the list of ingredients, the blackberry contains none of the 14 main allergens.
For whom
The blackberry is for everyone who loves blackberries but not the seeds. It is a perfect addition to the family breakfast table, for baking cakes on the weekend, and as a souvenir from Leipzig. Those who enjoy picking blackberries by the roadside in late summer will find this taste available all year round here. Sweeter and lighter is the Organic Strawberry from the same fruit farm. Tart and also smooth is the Organic Red Currant. You can find all the manufactory's spreads and mustards on our Rosenberg Delikatessen page. This jar is not suitable for those looking for a chunky spread with whole fruits.
